An accent wall is a fantastic and easy update that you can do yourself. However, you want to be careful how you do it – too much pattern or color can be distracting. Choose one wall to be the focal point of your room. Add a paint color or wallpaper to create your accent wall. Over the past year, shelf styling has taken over our Instagram feeds. In fact, just a cursory search for the term #shelfie fetches over 1.5 million posts. If you would like to jump on the shelfie trend, we recommend going for display units and other storage furnishings that feature an open shelving design. This is a great way to show off all your favourite knick-knacks while also bringing colour, personality, and life into the living room. To get that Pinterest-perfect look, arrange your items by height or colour. It’s also a good idea to take inspiration from the rooms colour palette so that your display ties in nicely with the overall look of the space.
Just because the hall isn’t a “room” in the traditional sense, doesn’t mean it should be neglected. Your corridor is the first thing guests see when they arrive, so it sets the tone for the rest of your home. You want to create a space that speaks to your design sensibility, while being functional and welcoming. Sounds like a tall order, but with a little ingenuity, you can create a pretty pathway with plenty of personality.
