The last element of a living room furniture layout is also the easiest: the rug. This should be centered in the middle of the main seating arrangement and extend a few inches beyond the sofa and chairs (or even further) to anchor the entire room. If the room is already carpeted, adding a thicker accent rug on top is a nice way to add warmth and encourage guests to relax and stay awhile.
Another option for sofas is the sectional sofa. This type of sofa is larger and often comes in multiple pieces. Sectionals offer significantly more seating than a standard sofa. While they are a bit harder to arrange than a standard sofa, they can still be quite stylish and comfortable. Some even come with an attached chaise lounge.
Good living room storage is almost as important as a good living room layout. Clutter can build up quickly in a space that’s used by the whole household every day, so it’s important that everything has its right place. A coffee table with drawers or a hidden shelf is perfect for keeping remote controls within reach but out of sight. Footstools that open up to reveal a secret storage compartment are another neat tidying trick, especially in small living rooms. Open shelving is great for books and ornaments, but it’s useful to have some kind of drawer or cupboard storage in your living room as well, where you can tuck away things like laptops and other items that you don’t want on display. Remember to leave plenty of room for any furniture with doors or drawers to open properly.
