To be honest, we love bright hues and exotic patterns. So, of course, we fell head over heels when we spotted this living room by Alida and Miller. Here colorful textiles from around the globe warm up the bohemian inspired space with downright funky style. A horse painting picked up at a local thrift shop is a nod to 1970s counterculture. Quirky accessories like the decorative swans on the floor and the phrenology head on the end table are right at home in this unique space.
When you want to play with texture, look first at the material. Leather, wood, fabric, metal or faux fur would all impart something different to your design. Start with a white leather loveseat and two metal chairs, and pair them with a cozy black throw blanket or rug. Next, add pattern and details with statement accent pillows, such as ones with black/ivory patterns in chevron or geometric shapes, or coralline black tassels.
Go wild, and invest in a statement furniture piece in a bold, signature color. Then add small details in this same color throughout. In the interior design below, we show a bright red sofa. We paired it with red details in the kitchen, and throughout, giving a “red thread” throughout the interior. This connects the design elements and makes it feel more together and less random.
