Storage can be an issue in the living room. Even with the additional storage an ottoman can provide, you may need shelves. Shelves are not only for storing items, even though that is what they are the best at. Shelves themselves can be quite stylish and, depending on style, can really add to your design. Shelving can also hold different items that may accentuate your design as well.
Deciding on a focal point will really help with space planning—a TV, fireplace, chandelier, artwork, et cetera. Once that is determined, the furniture arrangements can fall into place around it. So the main sofa, couch or sectional should be placed facing that wall.
